I've been looking through
Michigan Rocks & Minerals by Dan R. Lynch & Bob Lynch - Lots of great color photos for identification. The only thing I don't like is it will state that a type of rock or mineral can only be found in a certain area, which is not always true. An example being, "Pudding stone is only found in Michigan on the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula." I've found pudding stones in the Port Huron area of Lake Huron and have seen other people online mention finding it in other areas. Otherwise this book is seeming very good.
Lake Michigan Rock Picker's Guide and Lake Huron Rock Picker's Guide by Bruce Mueller & Kevin Gauthier are also nice. They discuss locations and have color pictures of rocks you are likely to encounter.
